The Rose That grew From Concrete

Gone but never forgotten. Tupac Shakur, one of the most legendary rap artists of all time, wrote this poem about his experience on being a rose that grew from concrete. During an interview he did in 1996 Tupac speaks on his poem and its deeper meaning. He explains that if someone were to see a rose growing out of concrete, no matter how bad the rose looked, they would be amazed by the sight because of how rare it is to see something like that. He goes on to say, "Why is it that when you see some ghetto kid grow out of all of the dirtiest circumstances and he can talk and sit across from you and make you cry, make you smile, and make you laugh; all you could talk about is my dirty rose, my dirty stems and how I’m leaning crooked to the side. You can’t even see that I came up out of that shit and that’s exactly the analogy that it is from me." I will always love this because it still relates to today’s world. People don’t see the accomplishments and achievements made by the ones who 'grew out of concrete'. All they tend to do is point out the negatives of one’s success and aren't aware of how hard they worked to get to where they are. Long Live Tupac Shakur.
